evergreen submissions

The Evergreen Review welcomes general submissions of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and video art—and we’re especially excited by works which blur the lines between multiple genres and forms. Read our current and past issues to get a sense of what we like.
- We only accept submissions of previously unpublished work. We will consider excerpts from forthcoming books, but such excerpts must appear in Evergreen before the book’s release.
- We accept simultaneous submissions, but please promptly withdraw your submission if it is accepted elsewhere.
- Please wait until you hear back from us about your submission before submitting again.
- Fiction and nonfiction pieces should be a maximum of 7,500 words in length. For poetry submissions, please submit a set of no more than 10 poems in one file.
- Please include a brief biography of 100 words or less. For an idea of our previous contributors’ bios, please see our contributor list here: https://evergreenreview.com/contributors/.
- Submit written work as a .doc or .docx file, video as a Vimeo link or equivalent.
- We’re a small team, so our response time may be as long as a month or two; you’ll hear from us as soon as possible.
- Evergreen is committed to fairly compensating all contributors. We pay all of our published writers and video artists a minimum of $250 for work (depending on length).
- Our $5.00 submission fee helps cover contributor payments and general operating expenses. If you are unable to afford the fee, you may request a waiver upon submission. This option is meant to support writers facing severe financial hardship, so please only opt to waive the fee if it is absolutely necessary.
- For questions about any of these guidelines, contact info@evergreenreview.com.
